Who We Are and What We Believe

Particularly Baptist exists to provide Australian Baptist news, theology, and history from the perspective of particularly Particular Baptists.

We say ‘Particular’ because all contributors hold to the theological conviction of Particular Redemption, also known as Limited Atonement, as well as to the other letters of the acrostic which make up TULIP, which often summarise Calvinism. (What’s Calvinism? Click here.) Further, many contributors are Confessional, which means they also adhere to a Confession such as the First London Baptist Confession (1644/46), Second London Baptist Confession (1677/89), or 1966 Baptist Affirmation of Faith. (What’s Confessionalism? Click here.)

As such, the content on this site is generally written from a Conservative and Calvinistic, if not Reformed, position with contributors coming from a range of Baptist Churches around Australia. Some belonging to Union-affiliated churches, while others belong to Independent Baptist churches. Whilst these authors may disagree with each other on certain doctrinal issues outside of Baptism, Church Autonomy, and the Doctrines of Grace, they all affirm the aforementioned central tenets.

However, it is the official position of Particularly Baptist to be a pro-confessionalism. This is because we recognise that biblical faith is inherently doctrinal and wholeheartedly agree with the 1677/89 London Baptist Confession being a concise summary which, as Charles Spurgeon put it, testifies the leading doctrines of the Bible, and something which acts as an “assistance […] in controversy, a confirmation in faith, and a means of edification in righteousness”.
